With the high school baseball season starting up this week, college baseball well on its way and professional baseball cranking up its spring training.  A weekly digest is here to round up news related to past Dirtbags.

Wood is Chanticleers spark plug
Cory Wood hit .333 with 7 Runs scored, 1 2B, and 1 SB to help lead Coastal Carolina to a 4-1 record this past week. Wood is hitting .357 this season and leading the Chanticleers in runs scored and stolen bases. Coastal is off to a 7-1 start.

Emmeretz off to hot start for Bucks
Colby Emmertz ETSU is off to a hot start hitting at a .467 clip with 1 2B and 4 RBI’s in 15 Plate appearances. He started in 4 games behind the plate and has helped the Bucks to a 6-1 Start.

Hackenburg Homers for Clemson
Adam Hackenburg went 1-3 with a HR and 3 RBI’s in a win over VMI. Clemson swept the series. Hackenburg is tied for the team lead in Homeruns and the tigers are 6-1 this season.

Clarke Leads Vanderbilt
Phillip Clarke went 3-8 with 3 RBI’s added a HR and run scored in a double header sweep of Pepperdine. Clarke is hitting .320 and is leading the Commodores in both HR’s and RBI’s.

Giles Helps Pirates at plate and on mound
Ryder Giles went 5-11 with 3 RBI’s and 1 run scored. He also threw 0.2 of an inning with 2 K’s in helping the Pirates go 2-1 over the weekend. He is hitting .385 overall and is tied for 2nd on the team in doubles. On the mound he has a 0.00 ERA in 2.2 innings.

Hess Bounces Back to Pick up first win for the Tigers
Zack Hess picked up his first win of the season on Friday night as he went 5.0 innings gave up 4 hits 1 run and also had 6 punchouts for the #1 ranked LSU Tigers.

Madole drives Spartans to great early start
Josh Madole is tied for the team lead with 3 RBI’s early this season and has helped the Spartans get off to a 3-1 start. He is also hitting at a .286 clip.

Dustin Ackley-Seattle Mariners
Ackley is 1-3 with a run scored in early action spring training games.

Kyle Seager-Seattle Mariners
Seager is 2-4 with 1 2B after 2 Games this spring. Seager looks to get off to a hot start this season.
