Date: January 30, 2019
Name: JD Poetzsch
Current Southern Alamance High School Assistant Coach
Coached with Dirtbags for 2 years

What made you want to get involved with the Dirtbags?
Passion and production made me want to get involved with the Dirtbags. It is the best name in NC baseball and I couldn’t wait to get involved with a group of guys who wanted to do all baseball all the time.

What’s one thing you have learned while being with the Dirtbags, that you didn’t know before?
How committed everyone is to putting our players in the best possible position. It isn’t just putting good teams in good tournaments. Its setting up strong rosters, communicating with coaches throughout our organization about how best to help our players. Our organization works extremely hard to find the right for our players after high school based on skill, academics. and the culture of the program.

What do parents/players need to know about Dirtbags Baseball?
It’s a lifestyle. Especially during the season. Midweek is all about communication with rosters, pitching rotations, schedules and uniforms. The end of the week is all about travel and busting your tail to win games, early in the week is reflecting on the weekend and getting ready to do it all again.

What’s your favorite memory of coaching with the Dirtbags?

This past summer I had a former player come back and coach with me.  It was really cool to see how the Dirtbags had not only helped him as a baseball player but as a leader too. My young team got to hear his journey and it helped reaffirm their journey as well.

What are you looking forward to the most about the upcoming Dirtbags season?
The travel and the games. It’s really neat to visit areas all over the south, play in different ballparks and play teams from all over the country and sometimes the world. We tend to get everyone’s best and its an awesome feeling to know you’re marked on someone’s schedule.
