What parts of your game you worked on this offseason?

During this off-season I really spent time working on my swing and really just getting my timing down with my front foot by simplifying my swing as much as possible. Another aspect of the game I really worked on was arm velocity in order to get my arm conditioned for the season in the outfield.

Describe Gavyn Byrd as a player?

As a player, I feel that I am a fast paced relentless opponent that makes things work regardless of the situation. I love to use my speed, so I can stretch singles into doubles, doubles into triples and ground balls into infield singles.

NW Guilford has a strong squad in 2018, what are your goals this spring?

At NW Guilford this spring, my goal is to square up pitches. I want to hit eight out of ten pitches hard. As a team collectively I believe we have a very outstanding chance to win the 4A state championship this year. We have the depth on the mound, as long as our offense can produce.

When did you start playing baseball? How did you get into the game?

I started playing the game of baseball when I was two years old. Ever since I could hold a bat I have. My grandfather got me into it and ever since his passing the game has just become my life.

What’s one piece of advice you have really taken to heart while playing with the Dirtbags?

One piece of advice I have taken to heart is, as a Dirtbag you play your hardest 100% of the time. Because you never know who is there watching you or anyone else. That extra effort could mean the difference between the check mark or the cross out of your name.

Describe the friendships you have made while playing with the Dirtbags?

The friendships I have made with the Dirtbags are second to none. I honestly don’t see them as friendships but rather as my brothers who have my back through any and everything regardless of anything.

What made you want to be part of the Dirtbag program?

The fact that you will get any and every teams best is why I really wanted to be a part of the Dirtbags. Along with the great coaching and brotherhood that’s comes with your commitment to the program.

What are your goals for this summer with the Dirtbags?

My goals this summer for the Dirtbags is to make a long run into the WWBA and do everything I can promote the program.

If you could trade places with anyone in the world for a day who would it be?

If I could trade places with someone for a day it would be my Dad. Trading places with him would allow me to see what he goes through every day and let me obtain a little better understanding of the world through the perspective of an older guy that I look up to so greatly.
