People who haven’t seen Jack Hicks play, how would you describe your game?

I would describe my game as low-key. I play very relaxed and focused

Most people don’t know but you have your own batting cage in your backyard. Do you feel like this helps you get ahead of the competition and how many swings would you say you get in per day?

Having a batting cage in my backyard helps me tremendously. For local games Vito Patierno, Cameron O’Brien, and I hop in there hours before a game and prepare accordingly for who we are about to face. I take about 50 off the tee around the plate to get loose then I take about 80 swings off of a machine.

What’s your approach in the box?

My approach in the box is to get ahead in the count and to look for that first pitch fastball. If I get behind, I scoot up closer to the pitcher to get ahead of a breaking ball. Also, if I get behind I try and fight everything off until the pitcher makes a mistake.

What made you want to be a Dirtbag?

I wanted to be a Dirtbag because I wanted to be a part of a winning organization and get exposed.

What is the one thing you have learned while wearing the Dirtbag uniform?

I have learned, when you lose you learn.

Who’s the best player you have played with while playing for the Dirtbags?

I would say the best player I have played with is Peyton Idol (Appalachian State Commit). He always shows up and knows how to start the game off in the leadoff spot.

When you hear the following people’s name, say one word that comes to mind:

Houston Koon:
Hacks
Nolan McLean: Bombs
Andy Partin: Goat
Peyton Idol: Stud

Connor Monroe: Shove

What’s one area of your game you have really focused on improving from 2017 to 2018?

I have been trying to improve on my defense all around as I play different positions for the Dirtbags.

Take us through your commitment to Kentucky? How did it happen? Both your parents went there correct?

Both my parents went to UK and it has always been a dream just to attend UK. With the help of Andy Partin & Trey Daly, I’m going to play baseball for my dream school. The Dirtbag staff helped me tremendously by getting Kentucky to our games and watching me play.

You still have two years left in the Dirtbag organization, what are you looking forward to the most?

I’m looking forward to winning a ton of games especially Jupiter, and to keep playing alongside a bunch of studs and building lifelong friendships.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about Jack Hicks?

I’m going to be dangerous this year!

Stay tuned for another exciting “Under The Gun” interview coming up Monday…
